CARTE BLANCHE
23.06.2023 to 23.07.2023 · Tino Pizza

The joy of pooping
Carte Blanche presents Tino Pizza as a full blown artist character: excessive, theatrical and totally committed to his own myth. The exhibition is built as a mise en abyme, a satire of the art world and of the strange behaviours, poses and rituals attached to being an artist today.
Behind that fiction is a Ben & Julia project. Paintings, objects, display logic and the invented persona all work together, so the room feels both convincing and knowingly absurd at the same time.

A room run by character
Tino Pizza’s world expands through paintings, props, symbols and recurring figures. Everything helps stage the persona: the swagger, the grotesque humour, the fake seriousness and the self promotion.
The result is not just a series of images. It becomes an environment where the viewer moves through an artwork about performance, ambition and what artistic identity looks like when it turns into a spectacle.
Detail, attitude and the joke underneath
Look closely and the work becomes even sharper. Handmade surfaces, cut out forms, rough painting and odd little symbols keep undermining the pose. The comedy is in the details as much as in the overall character.
That tension between craft and parody is what gives Carte Blanche its energy. It is funny, but it is also a precise portrait of how art, ego and image making get tangled together.
