RIOT 1394 / artist profile

Characters under pressure

RIOT 1394 works through drawing, painting and urban visual language. His images are character driven, highly physical and packed with collision: machinery, monsters, armour, humour, aggression and references pulled from different visual worlds.

The work moves easily between paper, wall, framed image and painted surface. What stays constant is the density of the line and the feeling that every character has arrived from a larger universe.

Across the practice

One vocabulary, many surfaces

The same language can become a dense group portrait, an isolated character, a spray-painted canvas or a tightly worked drawing. RIOT 1394 changes medium without losing the pressure and humour of the image.

Colour can be fluorescent and synthetic or reduced almost entirely to line. What connects the works is the construction of figures from fragments, references and exaggerated anatomy.

Drawing as construction

Detail is part of the character

The drawings show how much of the work is built through accumulation. Armour, chains, bones, fur, weapons and mechanical fragments become a kind of visual architecture around the body.

Seen close, those details are not decoration. They are what make the character believable inside RIOT 1394’s world.
