Maja Hürst
Painting, mural, mixed media and symbolic practice
Nature, travel and ancestral symbols
Maja Hürst’s work grows from a close relationship with nature, animals and the visual cultures she encounters through travel. South American and ancestral forms, ritual objects, signs and handmade traditions feed a practice built around painting, mural work and mixed media.
She is drawn to ways of seeing that place humans inside a larger living world. Animals, plants, stones and recurring symbols become carriers of memory, intuition and connection.

Symbols as living forms
Serpents, eyes, circles, knots and animal figures recur throughout Hürst’s work. She approaches them as living signs with long histories, connecting transformation, protection, intuition and the cycles of the natural world.
Alchemy, totemic thinking and shamanic traditions are part of this field of inspiration. The images do not illustrate a fixed belief system. They create a personal symbolic language assembled through observation, travel and lived experience.
A practice close to the physical world
Hürst’s relationship to materials matters as much as the image itself. Surface, pigment, handwork and the physical presence of a wall or object keep the work grounded in direct experience, far from a technology driven visual culture.
That same orientation appears in the values surrounding the work: kindness, generosity, openness and care. Her practice looks toward animals, people and natural systems as sources of knowledge and connection.

Mystika
Mystika brought these recurring interests together through paintings, symbols, animals and a concentrated installation built around nature, ritual and transformation.
