Opening Nights at Mauer

Mauer Gallery is an artist run space, but it is also a social room. On opening nights, artists, collectors, neighbours, animation lovers, friends and people walking in for the first time share the same space. The exhibition stops being an arrangement of objects and becomes something people move through together.

That energy matters. We want the room to feel active and generous, not hushed or intimidating. A strong exhibition can support conversation, curiosity and pleasure without losing any of its seriousness.

Kidult is part of the gallery language. It means taking colour, character culture, animation, humour and visual pleasure seriously without turning them into something stiff. The work can be immediate and sophisticated at the same time.

That is why a Mauer opening can bring together a painted mural, an original anime cel, a sculpture and a collector looking closely at a drawing. The connections happen through images, attitude and authorship rather than through conventional categories.

A gallery view with people in it tells a different story from an empty installation photograph. It shows scale, attention, movement and the way a work behaves when someone stands in front of it.

We keep these images because they document more than an event. They record the social life of the exhibition and the moment when a private studio practice becomes public.
