CEL Ā VIE 3
25.09.2026 to 13.11.2026 · Original Japanese animation art

CEL Ā VIE 3 continues Mauer Gallery’s exhibition series devoted to original Japanese animation art. The focus is the physical material used to make moving images: painted cels, douga, genga, layouts and production artwork. In the gallery these objects slow animation down. Pencil pressure, paint edges, corrections, registration marks and tiny decisions become visible again. The exhibition brings together different periods, studios and visual languages, allowing technical process and immediate visual pleasure to occupy the same room. Familiar characters can be looked at as drawings and paintings, while less familiar images reveal the extraordinary craft hidden inside production. The aim is simple: to show original animation art with the attention, space and visual authority normally given to any other significant work on paper or celluloid.
The work
