Ben & Julia / The World of Kaluk

The World of Kaluk transformed Mauer Gallery into a character based environment built through sculpture, installation and image making. Large fabricated creatures occupied the room as physical presences rather than illustrations brought to life. Their scale, fur, colour and handmade details allowed the project to move between art object, set, character design and exhibition architecture. Seen through the gallery windows, the installation changed the relationship between interior and street, turning the space into a stage visible from outside. The project reflects Ben & Julia’s broader practice, in which concept, fabrication, moving image and physical production are treated as parts of one continuous process.
