The installation is where an exhibition stops being a plan and becomes a physical composition.

01

The room is part of the work

Scale, distance, wall colour, light and architecture change the way a work is read. A piece that felt complete in the studio can become too quiet in the gallery. Another can suddenly dominate the room.

For us, installation is part of curating. It is not a neutral technical stage that happens after the creative decisions have been made.

From the Journal

An exhibition is not simply hung. It is composed.

02

Decisions happen at full scale

Works move. Heights change. A wall can be repainted. A sequence that looked logical on a screen can feel completely wrong once the objects are present.

The useful decisions are often physical and immediate. You stand back, walk through the room, change one thing and look again.
